These Terms and Conditions apply to the use of this website and to purchases made through the SOK online shop. By using this website or placing an order, you agree to these terms.

SOK: Shetland’s Organisation for Knitters (“SOK”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) is a Scottish charitable organisation dedicated to preserving, protecting, and promoting Shetland knitting heritage.

2. Eligibility to Purchase
You must be at least 18 years old or have permission from a parent or guardian to place an order through this website.
By placing an order, you confirm that the information you provide is accurate and complete.
3. Products and Services
SOK may sell physical goods, digital products, event tickets, educational materials, and other items related to Shetland knitting heritage.
We make reasonable efforts to ensure product descriptions, images, measurements, and colours are accurate. Due to differences in monitors, lighting, hand-dyed yarns, and handmade items, slight variations may occur.
Some products in the shop may be handmade or produced in small batches. Minor variations are part of the nature of handcrafted goods and are not considered faults.
4. Pricing and VAT
All prices are listed in Pounds Sterling (£ GBP).
Prices may change without notice.
Where VAT applies, it will be shown at checkout where legally required.
Customers are responsible for any customs duties, tariffs, import taxes, VAT, handling fees, or other charges applied by their own country.
5. Orders
Submitting an order does not guarantee acceptance.
We reserve the right to refuse or cancel orders for reasons including:
- Product availability
- Pricing or description errors
- Suspected fraud
- Abuse of the website
- Breach of these Terms
If we cancel an order after payment has been made, we will refund the amount paid.
6. Payment
Payments are processed securely through third-party payment providers such as Stripe.
SOK does not store full payment card details on its own servers.
By submitting payment information, you confirm that you are authorised to use the payment method provided.
7. Shipping and Delivery
We aim to dispatch orders within the timeframe stated on the product listing or order confirmation.
Delivery times are estimates only and are not guaranteed.
We are not responsible for delays caused by postal services, customs processing, strikes, severe weather, or events outside our reasonable control.
Risk in physical goods passes to you upon delivery.
You are responsible for providing a correct delivery address. Additional shipping costs caused by incorrect addresses may be charged to the customer.
8. Digital Products
Digital products may include downloadable knitting patterns, recordings, educational materials, or other digital content.
Digital products are licensed for personal use only unless otherwise stated.
You may not:
- Redistribute files
- Share downloads publicly
- Resell digital products
- Modify and sell derivative versions
- Upload files to file-sharing websites
Copyright remains with SOK or the original creator.
Under UK and EU consumer law, digital downloads may lose their cancellation rights once downloading or streaming has begun and you have agreed to immediate access.
9. Event Tickets and Online Access
Tickets for live or online events are non-transferable unless otherwise stated.
If an event must be cancelled by SOK, customers will be offered either:
- A refund
- A transfer to a replacement event
- Access to a recording where appropriate
We reserve the right to alter speakers, schedules, venues, or programme details where necessary.
Online event access links must not be shared publicly.
10. Returns and Refunds
Physical Goods
Under UK consumer law, customers in the UK and EU generally have the right to cancel eligible online purchases within 14 days of receiving goods.
To request a return, contact us within 14 days of delivery at sok@sokshetland.org.
Returned goods must be:
- Unused
- In original condition
- Returned with original packaging where possible
Customers are responsible for return postage costs unless the item is faulty or incorrect.
Refunds will normally be processed within 14 days of receiving returned goods.
Exceptions
The following items are normally non-refundable unless faulty:
- Digital downloads
- Streaming access
- Custom or personalised products
- Perishable items
- Sealed items opened after delivery where hygiene rules apply
Nothing in these Terms limits your legal consumer rights.
11. Intellectual Property
All website content, including text, branding, logos, graphics, photographs, videos, knitting patterns, and educational materials, belongs to SOK or its licensors unless otherwise stated.
You may not reproduce, distribute, or commercially exploit website content without written permission.
12. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the website unlawfully
- Attempt to interfere with website security
- Upload malicious software
- Copy or scrape website content without permission
- Harass staff, volunteers, tutors, or community members
We reserve the right to restrict access to users who breach these terms.

SOK processes personal data in accordance with UK GDPR, EU GDPR where applicable, and the UK Data Protection Act 2018.

Marketing emails require explicit consent and can be unsubscribed from at any time.

We do not sell personal data.
